2. Drug delivery
Drug delivery system is vital for the transport of therapeutic substances to selectively reach the targeted sites.
Nitric oxide (NO) is a gas signaling molecule that is involved in various biological processes such as vasodilation, angiogenesis, and apoptosis. However, direct use of NO is still challenging due to its short biological half-life (2-3 s) and limited diffusion distance (~100 μm). We developed novel polymer-based complexes and studied the control of NO release profiles depending on structural properties. Various drug delivery carriers such as particles and film types were optimized for each drug. We developed various drug delivery carriers that apply to biomedical applications through targeted drug release by adjusting chemical and physical properties such as structure and degradation rate.
